What is TMS?

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation is a non-invasive, pain free method to stimulate areas of the brain to improve symptoms of depression.

The TMS device is a coil of plastic-coated wire and is about the size and thickness of a typical oval cake tin.

The coil has a powerful and rapidly changing electrical current passed through it which produces a pulse of magnetism.

This pulse can produce a secondary current which when placed on the head generates a magnetic field which passes through the scalp with little resistance, and causes the underlying brain cells to activate.

This electrical activity does not spread throughout the brain. There is no damage to the brain, no serious side effects and no long-term adverse effect from the pulse of magnetism.

The TMS pulses can increase or decrease the activity in targeted areas of the brain depending on your individual requirements.

The process does not involve any medication or surgical procedures and you will not require any recovery time with clients often returning to work straight after treatments.

NAViGO offers a treatment programme with sessions taking place usually over a two to three week period, however this can be tailored to fit around your schedule. On average our clients usually require ten treatment sessions as well as an initial consultation.
