NAViGO awarded for ‘Excellence in DBT’ from the Association for Psychological Therapies

NAViGO’s Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Service have been named as a winners in the APT Awards for Excellence in DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) 2018.

These annual awards were established to keep people enthusiastic and engaged in how they can apply DBT in their practice, with judges looking for (A) a description of an intervention with a patient or group of patients, (B) the intervention to feature mainly DBT, and (C) what is described should “inspire” other people who read it – they should have ideas they want to implement in their practice too.

DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) was one of four categories in the Awards, with each category recognising excellent practice by organisations and individuals. The four categories were:

  • Excellence in DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy),
  • Excellence in Risk Assessment and Management,
  • Excellence in Working with Challenging Behaviour, and
  • Fostering Good Mental Health in the Workplace.

Professor Zaffer Iqbal, Head of Psychology and author of NAViGO’s award submission said the key component of our success has been the ability to have a visionary executive willing to develop a service that is 100% compliant with the evidence-based model, as approved by NICE. Our DBT therapists are exceptionally dedicated and as a team we have all grown to become a responsive and efficient service. I am very proud of them all.”

Dr Sophie Davies, APT’s Director of Governance and Evidence-Based Practice, wrote about NAViGO’s submission: “This essay by a service user who had recently completed the DBT programme is different to our usual submissions but is powerful and inspiring … We were thrilled to read of this user’s journey with DBT and in building her life worth living.”
