NAViGO Health and Social Care CIC Crisis Home Treatment Team for Older People based in Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire has been accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists’. The service is the only older people’s specific home treatment team to have gained accreditation in the UK!
Support offered to older people suffering a mental health crisis in North East Lincolnshire has received national accreditation for its continuing high standards of care.
The Home Treatment Accreditation Scheme (HTAS) aims to work with teams to assure and improve the quality of crisis resolution and home treatment services for people with acute mental illness and their carers. It engages staff in a comprehensive process of review, through which good practice and high quality care are recognised, and teams are supported to identify and address areas for improvement.
Accreditation assures staff, service users and carers, commissioners and regulators of the quality of the service being provided.
The accreditation Committee noted that the team received very good service user and carer feedback throughout their report, and felt they should be commended for this.
Involving service users and carers in HTAS is a priority, and people with first-hand experience of using crisis resolution or home treatment teams are encouraged to get involved in all stages of the accreditation process.
Service users and carers were interviewed on the day of inspection, and the comments received via questionnaires, were very positive about the staff and the care given. Examples were given of ‘very person-centred, thoughtful and compassionate care’.
The team have received consistent positive feedback, and have been described as ‘second to none’ and ‘angels of mercy’. Carers felt supported by the team, and felt they were given confidence by them.
Commenting on the achievements of the service, it was recognised that staff worked as a strong, experienced and friendly team, providing person centred care and compassion.
Gilly Brown, NAViGO Clinical Team Lead said; “We are delighted with our recent accreditation, and to be the only older people’s specific home treatment team to have gained accreditation in the UK is a real recognition of the staffs hard work and enthusiasm for providing high quality care to patients and carers every day.
I would like to thank again, all of the team members who directly and indirectly support our service users and carers during a mental health crisis”.
