Professor Zaffer Iqbal is Head of Psychological Services and a Consultant Clinical Psychologist at NAViGO, a multiple award-winning social enterprise providing National Health Service (NHS) mental health services from primary to crisis and acute care, within North East Lincolnshire, UK.
He completed a practitioner doctorate at the Institute of Psychiatry, London, and a PhD focussing on suicide in psychosis. He is a founding member of the team responsible for pioneering Early Intervention in Psychosis across the UK and has focussed his work on the understanding of the various manifestations of suicidality within the psychotic experience, having written widely on the subject over the years.
He is an expert advisor to the National Institute of health and Care Excellence (NICE) having contributed to guidelines for the management and treatment of mental health disorders. Over recent years he has looked at the growing problem of managing suicidality and self-harm within secondary care services, and how to adopt the evidence-base for the treatment of severe mental illness to overcoming delays and inefficiencies in NHS and clinical settings.
